BACKGROUND: 1932 Duesenberg Model J Murphy Disappearing-Top Torpedo Convertible Coupe, J-476 / 2485, owned by the ACD Automobile Museum (donation of Don Carr). This car was originally owned by Cliff Durant, the son of GM founder William C. Durant; Durant traded it for cash and a Duesenberg Model A roadster to oilman J. Paul Getty. Later the car was owned by writer John O'Hara, who offered it to the Navy as a staff car during WWII (they did not accept his offer). The late Don Carr restored the car and drove it more than 106,000 miles before donating it to the museum.
